Welcome to 2026 the year of the donkey please fact check that because I am not 100% sure if it is actually the year of the donkey or not. Anyway exposed what did you see? The point of this article that you’re about to read is what did you see or what day were you exposed and in what decade so what I’m going to do here today is discuss what happened each decade and what you were exposed to and how that may or may not be a direct correlation to society as it is today based on your demographic and age group. So what am I saying oh hey a bunch of us watched maybe some unhinged comedies that used some colorful language that may be canceled today. Oh don’t blame them because they were exposed to these words back in 1985. Thanks to the movie bachelor party with Tom Hanks Oscar winner by the way.

So where do we start with the exposing we could start with the 80s because I was born in the 70s but I don’t remember shit. Anyways, people born in the 80s were exposed to things like RoboCop when they were 10 years old and if you know that movie super bloody by the way. Other movies that we saw where the evil dead trilogy Porky‘s bachelor party as previously mentioned, and in addition to these, we started seeing some of those old 70s movies like the exorcist Texas chainsaw massacre, but also faces of death. So based on the titles alone without any sort of summary from Wikipedia, you can see how we were exposed to something really vile and disgusting stuff before the age of 12.

OK, let’s skip to the 90s what happened in the 90s you may ask? What were we exposed to in this decade and I’ll be honest with you I don’t know because I was kind of in college and didn’t really have time to worry about movies but I do remember fight club at the end of the decade and before that pulp fiction in the beginning of the decade and in between that a bunch of movies that might have a lot to deal with a heist? OK so maybe the 90s were kind of dead as far as exposing kids to things but I think the 90s continued the strong tradition of nudity violence and adult themes and possibly even racism without even being racist up until that point.

OK, we are moving quickly as we walk into the 2000s of the 2010s otherwise known as the aughts and what did they see in those years unfortunately due to terrorism, we saw really difficult and scary America early in the part of the decade so I think a lot of our movies were kind of sensitive to that and didn’t really expose themselves to a different type of risk taking that the 90s and 80s had done previously on the 20th century. I’ll be honest I don’t remember here much because I was now working and didn’t have really a lot of time to worry about movies median what not but I do remember there was some pretty cool Batman movies maybe some Spider-Man movies I think it was the rise of the superhero in the early arts.

From 2010 to 2020 what were the kids exposed to? Well they were exposed to a lot of things that involves possibly Covid possibly some different type of agenda when it came to movie making and I think that there was a little bit of censorship in a way with the movies after 2010. Now there was a sense of being a little bit more culturally sensitive to the world around them and maybe that’s not a bad thing because it allowed for people to actually care about each other and have a little bit more embassy besides their specific demographic that’s either in the mirror or based on their experience in life so what are kids being exposed to now in the 2020s you may ask?

Well, I think the 2020s have slowly become a different type of cultural shift/existing cancer. Maybe I shouldn’t say cancer so much as it was an existing style that never died and did not get canceled but continue to exist. Well past may be their expiration date. So in the 2020s I feel like directors are trying to be culturally sensitive but also at the same time not being overly sensitive because they do still want to capture that 1980s and 1990s vibe where people were a little bit more how shall we say it thicker skinned? And as we progress through the 2020s I will say that the movies have become very smart but also very empathetic to the audiences and to the people that it tries to entertain without offending. I think that’s the difference between 80s 90s and modern film is that those earlier decades didn’t care if they were offending anybody and maybe they understand now after so many years either jokes had meaning but we should not make them apologize for being who they were in the time that they existed thank you 80s and 90s.
